Everything You Need to Know About Veneers
Do you have a once in a lifetime event coming up and you want a perfect smile for the photos? The course of dental treatments normally span months or even years to help you attain a great set of pearly whites, however, if you are looking for a quick solution, veneers are your best bet.
The fastest way to resolve cosmetic teeth problems such as discoloration, misalignment, and gaps is through the use of veneers. Made from porcelain, veneers are created and molded to look like real teeth. Veneers are then attached to your real teeth and as long as you observe proper dental hygiene, veneers can last for more than a decade.
How do I start with getting veneers?
First, visit your dentist to consult if your teeth is a candidate for veneers. Since a veneer treatment requires removing a small amount of tooth enamel, not everyone is suitable for the type of treatment. You must have a healthy amount of tooth enamel present to begin with and a good general oral health. Once your dentist determines that your set of teeth and your oral hygiene habits are good, he or she will then proceed with the succeeding preparations.
How long will it take for me to have a perfect smile?
You’ll get your perfect smile in a couple of weeks. You will need to visit your dentist at least twice before getting your veneers attached.
- The first trip to the dentist is a consultation visit. Your dentist will check your teeth and gums to determine your dental health. Once the dentist deems that you are eligible for veneers, he or she will start the preparations for your teeth.
- In some cases, an extra visit to the dentist might be necessary to perform preparations. Otherwise, the dentist can already decide to proceed with the preparations on your first visit. He or she will remove a part of your tooth enamel to make space for the veneers. During this time, you can also discuss with your dentist if you require temporary veneers to wear until your veneers are ready.
- You will be asked to return for your next visit as soon as the veneers are molded and ready for attachment. Your dentist will install your veneers and check for the proper fit. He or she will then attach veneers to your teeth with a dental glue and will ensure that the veneers are bonded in place.
- You will be asked to come back for check-up sessions with the frequency depending on what your dentist sees fit.
How long do veneers last?
Proper dental hygiene and preventive dental care will help your veneers to last 10-20 years of use. Since veneers are made from porcelain, these can be chipped or broken. Caring for your veneers require that you stay away from hard food such as peanuts, guavas, and apples.
